Serum IgD and IgE

چکیده
seen in hypogammaglobulinemic patients. Group mean IgD concentrations were also depressed in patients with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome and in those with selective IgA deficiency; IgE concentrations were depressed in patients with X-linked immunodeficiency with hyperIgM and in those with ataxia telangiectasia. IgD and IgE were both significantly elevated in patients with extreme hyperimmunoglobulinemia E and undue susceptibility to infection and in a patient with the Nezelof syndrome; none of these patients had histories suggestive of atopy. In addition, the mean IgE concentration was significantly elevated in patients with selective IgA deficiency, many of whom were atopic, and in those with the Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome. The highest IgD concentration (163 mg/100 ml) was found in serum from a boy with variable immunodeficiency who had a lifelong history of severe recurrent pharyngeal infections, primarily streptococcal in etiology. Recurrent staphylococcal infection was a feature common to many but not all patients with elevated IgD and IgE. Depressed cell-mediated immunity was present in many patients with elevated serum IgE concentrations. These data may prove useful in the future delineation of biologic roles for antibodies in these two immunoglobulin classes.

IgD myeloma is very rate. It differs from multiple myeloma of other classes in several aspects and its laboratory diagnosis may be difficult, as total plasma protein concentration is often normal, and a paraprotein peak may not be easily demonstrable by the conventional electrophoretic techniques. We report here two cases of IgD myeloma investigated in this laboratory. Immunochemical, biochemic...
متن کاملUnusual myelomas: a review of IgD and IgE variants.
Immunoglobulin D multiple myeloma (IgD MM) accounts for almost 2% of all myeloma cases. It is associated with an increased frequency of undetectable or small monoclonal (M)-protein levels on electrophoresis; osteolytic lesions; extramedullary involvement; amyloidosis; a lambda (lambda) light chain predilection; renal failure; hypercalcemia; and, often, advanced disease at diagnosis. Immunoglobu...
متن کاملQuantitative serum immunoglobulin tests.
What is the test? Immunoglobulins are protein molecules. They contain antibody activity and are produced by the terminal cells of B-cell differentiation known as 'plasma cells'. There are five classes of immunoglobulin (Ig): IgG, IgM, IgA, IgD and IgE. In normal serum, about 80% is IgG, 15% is IgA, 5% is IgM, 0.2% is IgD and a trace is IgE. Quantitative serum immunoglobulin tests are used to de...
متن کاملIncreased total serum IgE concentration in patients who have undergone splenectomy after trauma.
Serum immunoglobulin and complement concentrations were evaluated in 20 patients who had undergone splenectomy after trauma. The concentrations of IgE and IgA in the patients were significantly increased compared with those in controls. The IgE values were not correlated with the time after splenectomy or IgA, IgG, IgM, IgD, C3, and C4 values.
متن کاملInfection with Nippostrongylus brasiliensis or injection of anti-IgD antibodies markedly enhances Fc-receptor-mediated interleukin 4 production by non-B, non-T cells
Non-B, non-T cells from spleen and bone marrow of naive mice produce IL-4 upon stimulation by plate-bound IgE or IgG2a in the presence of IL-3. Infection of mice with Nippostrongylus brasiliensis (Nb) or injection of anti-IgD antibodies, treatments known to cause striking polyclonal IgE responses, increase the number of splenic non-B, non-T cells and cause 10-30-fold increase in IL-4 production...
